US soccer team players attend training in Havana, Friday, Sept. 5, 2008. The US will face Cuba on Sept. 6 in a World Cup 2010 qualifying match in Havana.

With few fans in the stands and little light on the field, the United States hung on to win its first soccer game in Cuba since 1947, beating the hosts 1-0 in a sloppy, sleepy World Cup qualifier Saturday night. Clint Dempsey scored late in the second half and Tim Howard made two key saves to give the United States its third straight road win in qualifying from the North and Central American and...

D.J. Trahan watches his putt on the ninth hole during the second round of the BMW Championship golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, in St. Louis.

Jim Furyk quietly pumped his fist when his final putt of a marathon day disappeared in the cup. Even though it was for bogey, this was cause for a small celebration Saturday at the BMW Championship. He played 36 holes over 10 hours on a soggy course that made it feel as though he were walking through sand.

Riley Skinner didn't panic, even though he had only a minute following Mississippi's go-ahead touchdown on fourth down. Sam Swank ran onto the field with a smile on his face before attempting the game-winning field goal. Nerves? What nerves? No. 20 Wake Forest used its experience and poise to avoid becoming the latest Atlantic Coast Conference team to disappoint.
Jake Locker was crestfallen. The sophomore quarterback did everything he could to give Washington a chance for an upset of No. 15 BYU and wound up apologizing for the Huskies' loss. Locker was penalized for celebrating what could have been a game-tying touchdown run with 2 seconds left and BYU's Jan Jorgensen blocked the 35-yard extra-point attempt to help the Cougars hold to a 28-27 victory...

Arizona Diamondbacks' David Eckstein backs away from a close pitch from Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Chad Billingsley in the third inning of a National League baseball game in Los Angeles Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008. The Dodgers won, 7-2, taking sole possession of first place in the NL West from the Diamondbacks.

Manny Ramirez had three chances to hurt the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. He came through twice, and that was more than enough for the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers. After striking out on three pitches with the bases loaded in the third inning, Ramirez hit a three-run homer and a two-run double in his next two at-bats, leading the Dodgers to a 7-2 victory over Brandon Webb that gave them sole...
