| Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will miss another game because of his sore passing elbow. Coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that Ryan Fitzpatrick will start against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, giving Palmer another week to rest his right elbow. It'll be the third game Palmer misses this season because of the injury. |
| One surgery on Peyton Manning's left knee apparently wasn't enough to fix his infected bursa sac. Colts coach Tony Dungy confirmed Monday, after nearly two months of deflecting questions, that Manning had a second surgery before returning to the field in late August. Dungy does not believe the second knee surgery was the reason the team had a sluggish start this season. |
Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown's racing career is over after injuring his right front foot during a workout at Aqueduct on Monday. Michael Iavarone, of IEAH Stables, co-owners of Big Brown, said the 3-year-old colt tore a three-inch piece of flesh off the foot after it collided with his right rear foot while working over the turf course at Aqueduct with stablemate Kip Deville. |
A judge allowed Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Matt Jones to enter a drug treatment program Monday after being arrested on a cocaine charge earlier this year. The decision by Washington County Circuit Judge Mary Ann Gunn means the former Arkansas quarterback could have his charge dismissed if he completes the treatment. |
Tommy Bowden is out as Clemson's football coach. Bowden and the school split Monday in the middle of his 10th season, which started with the Tigers ranked No. 9 and picked to win the Atlantic Coast Conference. But an opening 34-10 rout by Alabama and recent losses to Maryland and Wake Forest raised calls again for Bowden's ouster despite a recent contract extension. |
